Oura Ring 4 vs WHOOP 5.0 for Membership, Charging and Data Access

Compare Oura Ring 4 and WHOOP 5.0 / MG on fit, charging, US membership costs, data export, and what remains after cancellation.

On Oura's US store, Ring 4 starts at $349. On WHOOP's membership page, One costs $199 a year with a 5.0 sensor included. The first number buys hardware; the second pays for a device and a year of service. With Oura, you decide separately whether to keep paying for detailed app insights. With WHOOP, the tier also determines which sensor and charger arrive in the box.

We checked the makers' US product, membership and support pages on September 28, 2026. This is a comparison of published terms and hardware details, not a hands-on test of comfort or measurement accuracy. It covers the still-listed Ring 4 and the WHOOP 5.0 / MG family. Oura also lists a newer ring, so confirm the generation at checkout if Ring 4 is the one you want.

If you already know which shape you will wear every night, start there. The Oura Ring 4 listing is for a titanium ring that needs a specific size. The WHOOP 5.0 / MG listing covers a screenless sensor worn on a band or in compatible WHOOP Body apparel. Neither maker's battery estimate can tell you which will feel better on your hand or wrist.

The prices above are US prices checked on September 28, 2026, before tax, promotions and optional accessories. Oura's US store and membership guide provide the Ring 4 starting price and plan rates. WHOOP's membership comparison supplies its annual rates and included hardware. A WHOOP annual price is the device-and-service package; adding a second hardware charge would count it twice.

Fit and charging are daily decisions

Oura's titanium ring is 2.88 mm thick and weighs 3.3 to 5.2 g, depending on size. The Ring 4 uses its own size range, so your ordinary jewelry size is not a reliable order number. Oura recommends wearing its sizing ring for at least 24 hours, including a night of sleep. Our Ring 4 sizing guide walks through that fit check; this comparison focuses on ownership after you have found a size.

WHOOP offers a different placement choice. Its wearing guidance lists the wrist and compatible body-worn locations for 5.0 and MG. If you want MG's on-demand ECG, check the band as well as the sensor. WHOOP says that reading requires an ECG-compatible band on the wrist; it is not available while the sensor sits in apparel. That feature also depends on regional availability.

The included WHOOP charger depends on the tier. Oura lists five to eight days per charge for Ring 4 and a typical 20 to 80 minutes on its included, size-specific charger. You take the ring off for that interval. WHOOP lists 14+ days for 5.0 and MG. WHOOP's charging guide says One ships with the wired Basic Charger, which is for off-wrist use. Peak and Life ship with the Wireless PowerPack, which can charge a sensor while worn with a compatible band. Both charger types work with 5.0 and MG, so a One member can buy the PowerPack separately. Battery claims are estimates, and the charger in a trial or upgrade package may differ from a new annual plan.

The membership is part of the product

Oura's hardware payment and membership payment are separate. New members receive one included month; after that, the US membership is $5.99 monthly or $69.99 annually. Membership unlocks detailed sleep analysis, heart rate and temperature trends, reports and integrations. Oura's membership support page is the place to check the current feature list and billing terms. Buying a second ring on the same account does not grant another free month.

WHOOP's One, Peak and Life plans include their respective sensor. One covers sleep, strain and recovery insights. Peak adds Healthspan and Health Monitor features. Life includes the MG hardware and features such as Heart Screener and Blood Pressure Insights. Check your country before treating an MG feature as part of the value of Life. WHOOP's ECG and irregular rhythm notifications have regional restrictions, and its Blood Pressure Insights are estimates rather than a tool for diagnosing or managing a condition.

It is tempting to compare Oura's $69.99 annual service price with WHOOP One's $199 annual price. That leaves out Oura's ring purchase. Comparing only the $349 ring with one year of WHOOP also leaves out the Oura membership. Put the hardware payment, recurring plan, tax and any extra charger or band on the same timeline for the period you expect to keep the device. The model you choose matters more than a headline price.

What happens to your data if you leave?

Oura says an active Ring 4 membership unlocks its full app. After it ends, the app still shows the three daily Readiness, Activity and Sleep scores, ring battery, profile, settings and Explore content. Detailed information and API access are unavailable. Oura says your account data is retained if you cancel without deleting the account, and the fuller view returns if you rejoin. You can still request your personal data in CSV form through Membership Hub. The request may take up to ten days. Oura says its older Oura on the Web export route will close on October 5, 2026, so use the Hub instructions rather than relying on that website path.

WHOOP's export guide describes an in-app request that sends several CSV files by email, generally within 24 hours. They include physiological cycles, sleep, workouts and journal entries. The download link expires after seven days. WHOOP Life members with MG can receive additional health data. If an archive matters to you, request it while your membership is active and save the files promptly; WHOOP's guide does not promise that the same in-app export flow remains available after the term ends.

WHOOP's cancellation guide says the sensor stops collecting, uploading and analyzing new biometric data after membership ends, although past data remains viewable. A prepaid annual member can schedule cancellation for the end of the commitment. Monthly payments within a 12-month commitment can still leave a balance or a scheduled end date. A free trial has separate device-return steps. Oura cancellation also takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle and Oura offers no membership pause. Read the terms for the exact checkout or trial you choose before assuming that tapping Cancel ends all charges that day.

Which one fits your situation?

Ring 4 makes sense if you want a ring, will do the sizing check and accept an off-finger charge every few days. Its separate hardware purchase gives you limited daily scores and a data-export path even if you stop paying, though the detailed app experience depends on membership.

WHOOP 5.0 makes sense if you prefer a screenless band or compatible body-worn placement and are comfortable buying an ongoing service that includes the hardware. Check whether One's wired charger meets your routine or whether Peak's PowerPack changes the choice. Consider Life only for MG-specific features you can actually use in your region. It is a materially different annual bill, and the device stops recording new data when membership ends.

Common questions

Can I use Oura Ring 4 without a membership?

Yes, with a limited app view. Oura lists the three daily scores, battery level and basic settings as available without membership. Detailed insights and API access require an active plan; CSV export through Membership Hub remains available.

Does WHOOP 5.0 keep tracking after I cancel?

It tracks through the end of your active term. WHOOP says that after membership ends, it no longer records, uploads or analyzes new biometric data. Past data remains viewable.

Does WHOOP One include charging while I wear it?

No. One includes the wired Basic Charger for off-wrist use. Peak and Life include a Wireless PowerPack for on-body charging with a compatible band; the PowerPack can also be bought separately for a 5.0 or MG sensor.

Can I export data from both products?

Both makers document CSV export. Oura's Membership Hub accepts requests with or without an active membership. WHOOP documents an app request and an emailed download link that expires after seven days. Export formats and available fields differ, so keep each maker's documentation beside your files.
